Itching is a companion to many diseases: dermatological, fungal, gastrointestinal, etc. Itching causes severe inconvenience and can sometimes catch a person in the most inappropriate place. Anti-itch tablets (antihistamines) do not act immediately, but within 30-60 minutes. In addition, they can cause unpleasant side effects, such as drowsiness, which is not particularly pleasant during the busy day. Itching ointments also cannot always be applied, since they take a certain time to be absorbed and can leave greasy marks on clothes. How can we escape from this unpleasant phenomenon?
Benefits of sprays
The traditional form of treatment for itching is tablets and ointments. However, recently, sprays have become widespread - aerosols that allow the distribution of a medicinal substance in a non-contact manner, making it easier to administer them into hard-to-reach areas. What are the advantages of sprays over traditional drugs:
- profitability - less active substance consumption;
- uniform distribution of the medicine to the affected area;
- fast, almost instantaneous action due to the high concentration of the drug on the affected area;
- no side effects;
- Can be used anywhere (at work, at school).
The procedure for using the spray is quick and does not require special preparatory work, with the exception of assembling the can and shaking it.
Calceneurin inhibitors in the fight against itching
The action of such medications is based on suppressing the release of substances that cause itching. If antihistamines do not achieve the desired effect, dermatologists often prescribe calceneurin inhibitors.
- "Elidel" is a cream with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity. Used during the acute period of the disease. Dermatologists generally do not prescribe it for longer than three to four days. It should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area of the skin for neurodermatitis, abrasions, purulent wounds, and atopic dermatitis. Elidel can be used as a remedy for mosquito itching, and it is effective. But too concentrated a composition can cause skin irritation.
- "Tacropic" is an ointment whose effect is to inhibit the synthesis and release of inflammatory mediators. Used in extreme cases. If all other remedies for itching have failed, then Tacropic comes to the rescue.
Mechanism
The mechanism of the antipruritic action of modern drugs is based on antagonism with histamine in relation to H1histamine receptors or on the anti-inflammatory effect that occurs with the inhibition of arachidonic acid and the formation of inflammatory mediators that can cause itching.
Medications with antipruritic effects are prescribed for the treatment of skin itching of various origins (except for those caused by liver diseases): urticaria, skin rashes, insect bites, atopic dermatitis. And also for itching of the genital organs.
Antihistamine hormonal drugs
These drugs instantly cope with irritation of the epidermis. The hormonal composition contributes to this. Unfortunately, they are almost always addictive. After withdrawal, the disease usually progresses.
- Advantan is the most powerful anti-itch remedy. The active component of Advantan is methylprednisolone aceponate, a chemical substance with pronounced regenerating properties. Produced in the form of a cream. Used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in children and adults. Effectively copes with allergic rashes, as well as onychomycosis and seborrhea. Unfortunately, after stopping the use of the cream, the itchy skin returns if its causes are not eliminated.
- Hydrocortisone and prednisolone ointments are produced by various pharmaceutical companies. Often enriched with caring and nutritional components. These are the most effective topical ointments for itching. Eliminate irritation and inflammation immediately after application, and within five minutes the patient feels relief. Help with dermatitis, neurodermatitis, insect bites, psoriasis and eczema. Contraindicated for use by pregnant and lactating women, as well as in the presence of bacterial and viral infections.
Anti-itch sprays
Most local spray preparations for the treatment of itching not only reduce the unpleasant symptoms of the disease, but also treat it. They include glucocorticoid hormones, which have good antiallergic and anti-inflammatory properties, antifungals, antibiotics, exfoliating and drying components. Sprays are widely used to relieve eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis, etc.
Stop itching
Stop-itch spray is a domestic anti-inflammatory spray that has become widespread due to its good effectiveness. This is a drug with a complex effect: it eliminates pain, reduces itching, relieves swelling and irritation, and also effectively fights pathogenic microbes on the skin. The spray contains:
- anti-inflammatory glucocorticoid triamcinolone;
- calendula extract, which prevents the synthesis of the hormone prostaglandin, which activates inflammatory processes;
- the anesthetic lidocaine promotes faster relief of allergic and inflammatory reactions;
- bactericidal components chloramphenicol and metronidazole, which affect most bacteria and fungi.
The low price of Stop Itching spray is one of the factors contributing to the growing popularity of the drug.
Spray Neotanin
The main active ingredient of Neotanin spray is synthetic tannin, which has a drying effect. The second medicinal substance is polidocanol, which has an antipruritic effect. The antipruritic effect develops quickly and lasts up to 3-4 hours. The spray can be applied up to 3-4 times a day. The drug can be used by both adults and children.
Betamethasone dipropionate is a glucocorticosteroid that, among other things, has an antipruritic effect. This is a spray for the rapid treatment of dermatoses on the skin, which relieves itching, swelling and redness within 15 minutes. The spray is very convenient to use: it dries quickly, leaves no marks, and does not stain clothes.
Oxycort spray
Oxycort spray contains hydrocortisone with the antibiotic oxytetracycline hydrochloride. The coticosteroid Hydrocortisone has an antipruritic effect. Oxycort is recommended for use for allergic skin diseases, erysipelas, and after insect bites.
Thermikon spray
Thermikon is intended for the treatment of mycoses and relieving itching that occurs during their development. The active substance of the drug is terbinafine hydrochloride. The spray has a wide spectrum of antifungal activity and is used to treat:
- mycosis of the feet;
- inguinal athlete's foot;
- mycotic lesions of the skin of the body;
- mold diaper rash.
Spray Terbinorm
Romanian spray Terbinorm, like Termicon, is intended for the treatment of fungal infections and has an antipruritic effect.
Epigenes
Epigen intimate spray is an excellent spray for itching in the intimate area that occurs with thrush, conlilomas, herpes and other mucosal lesions. You can use the drug for hormonal imbalances (menopause), characterized by itching and burning in the intimate area. Epigen intimate spray for itching contains glycyrrhizic acid, obtained from licorice root. A special feature of the spray is the possibility of its use during pregnancy.
The gel is applied to the intimate area as follows:
- the container is pre-shaken;
- for external use, the medicine is applied to the affected surface from a distance of 4-5 cm. 1-2 valve presses will be enough;
For intravaginal use, the kit includes a special tube attachment. The valve is removed from the can and the nozzle is put on. The person suffering from itching lies on his back and the nozzle is inserted into the vagina. The product is injected with 1-2 pumps, which is the optimal dose. After treatment, you need to lie on your back for 5-10 minutes.
Floceta
Floceta anti-itching skin spray has an anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial effect due to the action of natural plant components. Floceta is considered a dermato-cosmetic herbal preparation, which includes:
- chamomile;
- calendula;
- mineral component AI acetate tartrate.
Floceta helps cope well with itching, including chickenpox, is quickly absorbed into the skin, and stimulates the natural protective functions of the epithelium. This complex remedy is not a medicine and is completely harmless.
Eucerin AtopiControl Spray
Eucerin AtopiControl Antipruritic Spray for atopic skin will help relieve the most acute attacks of itching. The drug instantly opens the vicious circle of atopic skin pathology – the itching-scratching cycle. Eucerin contains antipruritic components - Polidocanol and Menthol, which have a calming and cooling effect. The product does not contain dyes and parabens. The spray can be used from 3 years of age. The product can be used immediately when a feeling of itching appears, applying from a distance of 20 cm from the affected area.
Antipruritic ointments: a review of effective drugs used in dermatology
In modern life, very often people have to deal with problems such as itching, peeling and irritation of the skin. For all these symptoms, dermatologists recommend that patients use a variety of gels, creams or ointments. This article will help you understand which products best combat skin problems.
How to choose a drug
To correctly select antipruritic medications, it is necessary to identify the main cause of this unpleasant symptom. A skin disease specialist (dermatologist) will be able to not only identify the pathology that is causing the itching, but also recommend remedies to eliminate it.
Antipruritic medications are usually chosen according to skin type: for dry skin, a cooling ointment is more suitable, for those prone to oiliness - a gel or cream. It is not recommended to self-medicate, as inappropriate medications may not only not relieve the symptoms, but also aggravate the situation.
Types of antipruritic drugs
There are several options for anti-itch medications. Each type is applicable to the treatment of a specific disease.
Antiallergic drugs
Allergy medications are used to relieve itching and inflammation when a skin reaction occurs. These drugs improve the passage of blood through the vessels, due to which swelling subsides and inflammation goes away.
Antiallergic medications are represented by antihistamines. The most popular drug from this group is Fenistil, a gel that has antipruritic and analgesic effects. When applied, it cools and soothes damaged skin. Approved for use in children from 1 month, during pregnancy and lactation (on any part of the body except the mammary glands).
Non-hormonal
Non-hormonal agents have an anti-inflammatory effect and eliminate redness, itching and burning of the skin:
- Panthenol – relieves inflammation, hyperemia, softens and moisturizes.
- Zinc ointment is an inexpensive but effective remedy that relieves irritation. Can quickly dry and soothe inflamed skin.
Hormonal
If non-hormonal medications do not help, doctors may prescribe more serious medications:
- Advantan is a fast-acting medicine that is effective for severe inflammation.
- Prednisolone is a hormonal ointment against itching that begins to work from the first day of use.
- Hydrocortisone is a drug that eliminates skin allergy symptoms.
- Dermovate is an ointment that relieves swelling, inflammation and other unpleasant symptoms. Reduces collagen production.
- Celestoderm - eliminates itching and burning on the skin, has a vasoconstrictor effect. The active substance is beclamethasone valeriat.
With antibiotics
Ointments that contain an antibiotic are not antipruritic. These drugs are used for infectious lesions of the skin.
The use of antibacterial ointments allows you to get rid of the source of the problem. Elimination of itching is only an additional, but very useful effect of these drugs.
The most popular broad-spectrum products:
- Levomekol is an ointment with an antimicrobial effect, promotes the regeneration of damaged tissues, and has rapid absorption.
- Erythromycin is a medicine for skin itching and various types of rashes with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects.
- Dioxidin is an ointment that promotes rapid healing of damaged skin cells.
- Baneocin - in addition to its main effect, eliminates dry skin.
- Fucidin is an antibiotic in the form of a cream. The active substance is fusidic acid.
Antifungal
Itching in various places of the human body can be caused by the development of mycoses. There are a huge number of topical antifungal drugs. The most popular drugs are:
- Sebozole is an ointment with the active ingredient ketoconazole. Eliminates itching caused by skin lichen, candidiasis and other mycoses.
- Terbinafine is an ointment that relieves itching from diaper rash, candidiasis, lichen and other fungal diseases.
- Clotrimazole is a drug that effectively eliminates the unpleasant symptoms of mycoses. The product is capable of destroying the walls of pathogenic cells and thereby destroying the infection.
- Exoderil is a cream for external use of Swiss origin. Effectively fights fungal infections on human skin and nails.
With menthol
In dermatology, there are antipruritic drugs containing menthol. They can not only relieve itching, but also soothe the skin with a cooling effect.
Menthol is a substance obtained from the essential oil of peppermint. It also has an antiseptic and analgesic effect.
Menthol gels and ointments are usually prescribed for the following skin lesions:
- insect bites,
- allergic reactions,
- sunburn.
The line of menthol-based medicines includes:
- Boromenthol is an ointment with antipruritic, antiseptic and analgesic effects. Apply a thin layer to damaged areas.
- Bom-Benge is a combination drug. Contains two active substances - menthol and methyl salicylate. The ointment has antipruritic and anesthetic effects.
- Golden Star is a balm that relieves itching from insect and jellyfish bites. Has a pronounced cooling and analgesic effect.
Calcineurin inhibitors
Calcineurin inhibitors are a modern effective remedy for skin itching and various rashes. The active substance is tacrolimus or pimecrolimus.
The action of inhibitors is to suppress the synthesis and release of mediators that contribute to the development of inflammation.
The drugs are used in a short course to eliminate the symptoms of the disease (itching) if other types of drugs have failed to cope with the problem.
Examples of calcineurin inhibitors:
- Elidel is a cream with the active substance pimecrolimus.
- Advagraf contains tacrolimus.
Indications for use
Indications for the use of antipruritic drugs depend on the combination of all the factors that caused the unpleasant symptom:
- allergy,
- diseases of the endocrine system,
- malfunction of the gastrointestinal tract,
- the presence of fungal infections,
- insect bites,
- prolonged exposure to the open sun,
- frostbite as a result of exposure to severe frost,
- the presence of skin parasites,
- abrasions and wounds in the healing stage,
- the use of low-quality cosmetics for the skin,
- depression and mental disorders.
Depending on the cause of itching, all ointments and creams can have different effects on a person. Some medications relieve itching by removing allergens from the body, others disinfect the surface of inflamed skin, etc.
Contraindications
Some products have many contraindications for use. The most common restrictions on the use of the drug are:
- skin infectious diseases (for hormonal ointments),
- AIDS,
- tuberculosis,
- pregnancy due to a negative effect on the fetus,
- breastfeeding period,
- syphilis,
- autoimmune diseases,
- individual intolerance.
In order not to cause harm to your body, before using an antipruritic drug, you must carefully study the instructions for its use. The best option would be to visit a qualified specialist who will help prescribe a drug that is suitable for a particular person.
What is scabies
Scabies is a dermatological disease caused by the scabies mite (itch). Penetrating under the skin, the female lays eggs there and forms passages in the subcutaneous layer. The areas where the mite is located are very itchy.
Usually the disease spreads to the phalanges of the fingers, armpits, and skin folds. Carrying out an external examination of the skin, you can easily see the progress of the itching.
The symptoms of the disease are most pronounced at night, which causes problems with sleep.
If the disease is ignored, then without treatment a serious inflammatory process develops with blood poisoning, which ultimately leads to serious complications.
The spread of ticks occurs through:
- bed sheets;
- household items;
- clothes;
- handshakes;
- any touch of a healthy and infected person.
How to choose an ointment
In order to correctly decide on the choice of drug against itchy skin, it is necessary to find out the etiology of the occurrence of this symptom. There are several main reasons for such manifestations, which are conventionally divided into 2 types:
- allergic reactions;
- dermatological diseases;
- skin damage (sunburn, trauma, insect bites);
- parasitic or fungal skin lesions.
- psychoemotional disorders;
- systemic invasions;
- diseases of various organs and systems (liver, kidneys, thyroid gland, diabetes mellitus);
- side effects of drugs.
The first provoking factors are clearly visible and easily identified by characteristic manifestations - redness and swelling at the site of skin damage, a bite or burn, which is clearly visible in the photo. The second, hidden factors do not have such signs and can manifest themselves as itching in any place on the skin, while the main specific signs of the disease remain hidden.
Therefore, when using antipruritic ointments to treat external appearances caused by obvious causes of skin itching, the effect is achieved almost immediately. If there are hidden provoking factors, then local remedies are ineffective, and the time spent contributes to the aggravation of the disease and significantly complicates treatment.
Important: If, for no apparent reason, you are bothered by itching of unknown etiology, which does not respond to the action of ointment, does not go away within a few days, or recurs after short intervals, it is necessary to undergo a full examination of the internal organs.
In addition, even if the pathogenesis of skin itching is completely clear, to eliminate it, you need to choose only drugs suitable for treatment.
Symptoms and signs of the disease
The disease is accompanied by the following negative symptoms.
- Intense itching, worse at night.
- Formation of white stripes on the skin more than 15 mm long.
- Development of a characteristic rash on the skin.
- As a consequence of the active activity of the mite, the intensity of the itching increases every day.
- Very large scratches may form on the skin due to the inability to control oneself (especially during sleep).
- Lack of treatment causes purulent formations and the development of infection.
The disease may not manifest itself in any way during the first few days after infection. But as soon as the female lays the first eggs, the person will begin to feel itching, which will only intensify every day.
The disease can be detected at the initial stage only when the desire to itch arises. To treat the disease, special sprays are used.
Main characteristics of 1st generation drugs
The very first antiallergic drugs (Tavegil, Suprastin, Diphenhydramine), created in the last century, have a very rapid effect, but the effect lasts a short time. This reason is the immediate reason for taking them twice - morning and evening.
They have a pronounced calming effect and cause drowsiness. This property is a complete contraindication for prescribing them to those people who work in hazardous industries, as well as to drivers.
At the same time, the above-mentioned effects that first generation antihistamines have are in demand when skin allergic reactions that have developed in a person are accompanied by sleep disturbances or increased irritability. First generation anti-allergy drugs have the following features:
- They have a very short validity period, no more than three hours.
- Able to easily pass through the blood-brain barrier (located between the bloodstream and nervous tissue). To put it simply, the drug, after entering the bloodstream, quickly penetrates the brain.
- They block H1-histamine receptors by only 30%.
- These medications cannot be taken for a long time, as after a week they begin to become addictive.
- They do not have selectivity, that is, specificity, selectivity of action. This means that they are not able to bind to only one receptor, so a large number of adverse reactions are possible.
- Under the influence of antidepressants and alcohol, they provoke the occurrence of a sedative effect, otherwise suppression of consciousness.
- They have a stimulating effect on appetite.
The presence of such a huge number of undesirable effects that cause first generation antihistamines taken for itchy skin became the impetus for the search for new H1-histamine receptor blockers, which was successfully achieved in 1977.
Spregal
Helminth infections can lead to numerous health problems, shortening life by 15-25 years. Many parasites are extremely difficult to detect. They can be anywhere - in the blood, intestines, lungs, heart, brain. Symptoms of helminthic infestation can be confused with ARVI, gastrointestinal diseases and others. The main mistake in such cases is delay! If you suspect the presence of parasites, you need to contact a specialist. More information about modern methods of treating helminth infections is described in this interview with a doctor . If we talk about medications and self-treatment, then this antiparasitic complex .
You can buy Spregal at a pharmacy. It is a combined remedy to combat scabies. Due to the interaction of the components, the spray causes paralysis of the tick. After using Spregal, water procedures are contraindicated for 12 hours.
This is necessary for the penetration of active substances under the skin. To ensure you can sleep normally, it is better to apply the product in the evening.
The drug is considered safe and can even be used to treat newborns.
Among the contraindications are:
- individual intolerance;
- bronchial asthma;
- lactation;
- bronchitis.
Ointments and preparations for itching on the hands and feet
If itching and dermatitis are located in the elbow and knee bends, on the feet and hands, then most likely this is a manifestation of chronic diseases. such symptoms may be accompanied by general weakness, fever, and indigestion. It is worth seeing a doctor for a full examination of the body and finding out the cause of the itching. If, with such symptoms, the patient suffers from a runny nose, watery eyes, and constantly sneezes, it may be hay fever or an allergy to pet hair. In this case, it is better to seek advice directly from an immunologist or allergist.
In order to temporarily get rid of painful itching on the arms and legs until an accurate diagnosis is determined, you can use the following remedies:
- "Baneocin" is available in powder form for the preparation of suspension and ointment for external use. The antibiotics neomycin and bacitracin in the composition of the drug provide local anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effects. "Baneocin" is a rather strong remedy; it should be used only in extreme cases. The ointment is effective for itching caused by diabetes and other serious diseases.
- "Levosin" is an inexpensive ointment that has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anesthetic and regenerating properties. Prescribed for itching of various localizations, purulent wounds and infectious skin lesions. Contraindications are: age under 1 year and individual intolerance to individual components of the drug.
Esdepalletrin
Analogue of Spregal. Both sprays have the same composition and principle of action. It is used not only to treat affected skin, but also household items with which the infected person has been in contact.
It is important that when spraying, the room is well ventilated, otherwise particles of toxic substances included in the product will actively penetrate the respiratory system.
It is also an analogue of Spregal, the only difference is the volume of the bottle. A-Par is produced in the form of an aerosol in bottles of 152 g. The treatment regimen is similar to Spregal. First the body is processed, then the limbs. It is important to exclude the possibility of the spray getting into the eyes and other mucous membranes.
Before use, be sure to read the instructions with contraindications.
Symptoms
Itching of the skin is mainly caused by the course of various diseases, therefore, in addition to the main symptoms, other signs of skin lesions can be observed. Such specific clinical manifestations include:
- The appearance of red spots on the skin, often with a clear border. They are often covered with blisters and protrude above the surface of the skin. With certain diseases, several zones of redness can merge into one.
- The skin peels and the flakes that flake off cause serious discomfort.
- There is a burning sensation.
- Due to constant scratching, wounds and scratches appear in problem areas, as well as characteristic rashes.
- Crusts form at the sites of burst blisters or ulcers.
The listed clinical manifestations are often symptoms of liver disease. But there are other signs that indicate liver problems:
- Strong gas formation.
- Defecation disorders, expressed in diarrhea or constipation. There may be an alternation of both.
- Urine becomes dark in color, and feces, on the contrary, become discolored.
- The skin and mucous membranes turn yellow.
Often itching occurs without any rash. In such cases, you can pay attention to bitterness in the mouth, as well as general malaise.
If the occurrence of the problem is influenced by physiological reasons, for example, pregnancy, then the list of additional signs can be supplemented with the following:
- Sleep disturbance or complete absence.
- State of irritability.
- Depression.
- Feeling of emotional and physical discomfort.
It is necessary to pay attention to the fact that all the above factors are only the main signs that accompany the appearance of itching of the skin. All symptoms are strictly individual. There are exceptions when, apart from the main symptom, no signs are noted. This happens with diseases of the hematopoietic system or mental disorders.
Para-Plus
The spray is intended to treat head lice, but it is also effective for scabies. Contraindications for use:
- age up to 2.5 years;
- bronchial asthma;
- obstructive bronchitis.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, Para-Plus should be used as carefully as possible and only under the supervision of a doctor.
Can be used on:
However, these areas should be treated with the utmost care. It is better to apply the spray on a cotton pad, which then needs to be used to wipe off the foci of the disease.
Types of antipruritic ointments
Various ointments are used against itchy skin, which are divided into classes depending on the main active ingredient and the direction of action. Among them, there are several of the largest groups - antihistamines, antifungals, antiparasitics, and other drugs that can significantly speed up the elimination of itching.
Antihistamines
Histamine is the main substance that is released during an allergic reaction and leads to itchy skin. To influence this allergy mediator, antihistamine ointments are used, which can almost immediately alleviate the condition by removing itching, swelling, and inflammation. They are divided into 3 groups:
- non-hormonal - prescribed for mild itching caused by allergies, isolated insect bites, sunburn;
- hormonal - used to relieve local itching in dermatological diseases, severe forms of allergies, and other serious cases;
- antiallergic ointments with antibiotics - used to eliminate itching caused by inflammatory processes.
Each of these groups includes a fairly extensive list of antipruritic ointments.
Non-hormonal
These agents have a local effect on skin receptors and temporarily block the transmission of unbearable sensations. The most common non-hormonal ointments include:
- "Fenistil" - relieves itching, has a cooling and analgesic effect, which appears 5 minutes after application and lasts for several hours. Effective for the treatment of urticaria, mild sunburn, dermatosis, insect bites. Contraindicated in children under 1 year of age, pregnant and lactating women.
- “Panthenol” – eliminates inflammation, accelerates healing, moisturizes. Recommended for dermatitis, irritations, mild burns of any origin. Absolutely safe, suitable even for newborns. Cannot be used only if you are individually intolerant to dexpanthenol.
- “Skin-cap” – has an antiseptic effect and is effective against infections and fungi. Used in complex therapy of neurodermatitis, dryness, and skin irritation. Can be used for a long time. Contraindicated in case of intolerance to the components.
In general, non-hormonal antipruritic ointments are a safe and fairly effective way to relieve mild itching caused by obvious triggers.
Hormonal
Hormone-based ointments (most often prednisolone or hydrocortisone) are very common and are often used to relieve itchy skin at home. The most popular drugs in this class are:
- Prednisolone and hydrocortisone ointments are among the most effective topical antipruritic drugs. Immediately after application, it eliminates itching and relieves inflammation. Most effective for eczema and dermatitis. Very well tolerated. Prohibited during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and in the presence of viral and bacterial infections.
- "Advantan" - relieves itching and almost all other manifestations of allergies. Excellent for eczema and dermatitis. It is well tolerated, but sometimes mild side effects such as burning or rash are possible.
Important: In case of severe itching associated with serious systemic disorders, hormonal antipruritic ointments should be used simultaneously with drugs for internal oral or parenteral use.
With antibiotics
Ointments containing antibiotics have a wide spectrum of action and high antimicrobial properties. To relieve itching, the following are most often used:
- “Levomekol” is absorbed very quickly and stimulates skin regeneration. It is prescribed for the treatment of infected and festering wounds, but can be very effective in relieving itching. Cannot be used only if the components are intolerant.
- Erythromycin ointment - exhibits high activity against various bacteria. It is used in cases of infectious skin lesions, burns, trophic ulcers. Contraindicated for liver diseases, pregnancy and lactation.
- "Oflocain" - contains an anesthetic, is good for inflammation of the skin of varying degrees. Not prescribed in the same cases as Erythromycin.
Ointments containing antibiotics directly affect the affected area, so they immediately begin to act on the causes that caused the local manifestation of itching.
Antifungal
Itching caused by fungal infections is best relieved with antifungal medications. The most effective antipruritic ointments with a fungicidal effect are:
- "Clotrimazole" is a fast-acting drug with increased activity against most fungi and has an antibacterial effect. Shows good results in the treatment of skin mycoses. Not applicable in case of intolerance to the components and in early pregnancy.
- "Lamisil" - easily eliminates itching and softens the skin. Prescribed for dermatophytes, mycoses, and lichen versicolor. Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age, women during breastfeeding, and people with hypersensitivity to the components.
- Nystatin ointment - perfectly fights yeast fungi, quickly eliminates itching and other symptoms of mycosis. Used for candidiasis. Safe for health, not suitable for use only in case of individual intolerance to the components.
In any case, without completely eliminating the fungal pathogen, it is impossible to get rid of irritation and itching of the skin. Therefore, for mycoses, complex treatment is carried out with the simultaneous use of products for internal and external use.
With menthol
Ointments containing menthol are very popular for relieving itching. This substance has a cooling, analgesic and antiseptic effect. The 2 most commonly used drugs are:
- "Boromenthol" is an anesthetic with antipruritic and antibacterial effects. Shows high effectiveness in the treatment of skin irritations. Has no adverse reactions. Prohibited for children under 1 year of age and those with individual intolerance to the components.
- "Menovazan" is a combined action ointment with an analgesic effect. Prescribed for dermatoses to quickly relieve itching. Cannot be used on damaged skin, therefore not suitable as an antipruritic for burns, eczema or injuries. Use with caution by children, pregnant and lactating women.
In most cases, ointments with menthol do not give any adverse reactions, so they can be used as a universal remedy for relieving localized itching.
Calcineurin inhibitors
The action of this group of antipruritic drugs is based on suppressing the release of substances that cause such manifestations. They are prescribed when antihistamine ointments are ineffective.
- "Elidel" - shows high anti-inflammatory activity, quickly relieves itching and swelling, prevents the sharp spread and further development of the disease. Prescribed for short-term (acute period) and long-term treatment of atopic dermatitis (eczema) on any part of the body. Contraindicated in the presence of skin lesions due to an acute viral infection.
- Tacropic inhibits the synthesis and release of inflammatory mediators. Indicated for the treatment of atopic dermatitis in case of insufficient response to traditional therapy. Not suitable for children under 16 years of age, pregnant and lactating women, or in case of hypersensitivity to tacrolimus and macrolides.
When choosing an anti-itching ointment, you should not take this symptom lightly, since it can cause quite serious complications, as well as be a manifestation of more complex systemic disorders. If, after using an antipruritic ointment, the expected effect does not occur or the condition sharply worsens, you should immediately stop using it and consult a doctor.

Antihistamine ointments with antibiotics
This class of insect bite remedies for itching also has the property of reducing pain and swelling. The composition contains an antibiotic that helps quickly and effectively.
- Erythromycin ointment is produced by various pharmacological factories. Depending on this, it may be called “Erythromycin” or others. It is active against various bacteria and can neutralize the effects of some insect poisons. It is also used in dermatology for infectious skin lesions. Used as part of complex therapy for atopic dermatitis, which has entered the stage of suppuration.

Not long ago my health condition worsened. I began to feel constant fatigue, headaches, laziness and some kind of endless apathy appeared. Problems also appeared with the gastrointestinal tract: bloating, diarrhea, pain and bad breath.
I thought it was because of the hard work and hoped that it would go away on its own. But every day I felt worse. The doctors couldn’t really say anything either. Everything seems to be normal, but I feel like my body is not healthy.
I decided to go to a private clinic. Here I was advised, in addition to general tests, to get tested for parasites. So in one of the tests they found parasites in me. According to doctors, these were worms, which 90% of people have and almost everyone is infected, to a greater or lesser extent.
I was prescribed a course of antiparasitic medications. But it didn’t give me any results. A week later, a friend sent me a link to an article where some parasitologist shared real tips on fighting parasites. This article literally saved my life. I followed all the advice that was there and after a couple of days I felt much better!
Digestion improved, headaches went away and the vital energy that I so lacked appeared. To be sure, I took the tests again and no parasites were found!
Anyone who wants to cleanse their body of parasites, no matter what types of these creatures live in you, read this article, I’m 100% sure it will help you! Go to article>>>
Scabies is a common skin disease and is highly contagious. It is provoked by scabies mites - females reaching a length of no more than 0.4 mm. The life span of a female is one month. When contacted with the skin, females begin to make special passages in the upper layers of the skin, laying several eggs. Each egg hatches into larvae that turn into adults within a few weeks. Scabies can only be transmitted from person to person.
You can become infected through close contact with someone who is sick. In children's groups, scabies is transmitted through toys that the sick child previously played with.
It is important to start treatment promptly to avoid infecting others. an effective remedy for scabies.
Classification of antiallergic drugs
Antihistamines are used for various diseases that occur as a result of allergies (allergic conjunctivitis, rhinitis, dermatitis, gastritis, as well as common urticaria). The advisability of their use in all these cases is due to the fact that histamine has a wide range of effects. The very first drugs that can effectively block human H1-histamine receptors, thereby preventing further progression of allergies, began to be used in clinical practice back in 1947.
Since the middle of the last century, all drugs that help fight the negative manifestations of allergic reactions have been modified several times. Scientists have been able to create more and more new drugs from this group. They are more effective, although they are analogues of the old ones. At the same time, they have a smaller list of side effects. The entire variety of antihistamines presented by the modern pharmaceutical industry is classified into several levels. They are divided into 3 generations, each of which has its own characteristics.
Symptoms of the disease
The incubation period ranges from 3-4 hours to 2-3 weeks. Most often, the first symptoms of the disease begin to appear on the second or third day after contact with the sick person. The main symptom is unbearable itching of the skin, which gets worse in the evening and at night. On open areas of the body, nodular formations and bumps of different sizes appear in the form of a rash. Rashes can vary in location and shape.
The severity of the rash largely depends on the individual characteristics of the body, as a reaction to toxins secreted by the tick that have penetrated into the subcutaneous tissue and circulatory system. A striking manifestation of scabies are grayish-white stripes that are barely noticeable on the skin. These are the so-called traces of scabies mite movement. Scabies burrows have a tortuous shape, the length of the burrow can vary from 3 to 15 mm and there is always a small bubble at its tip. The rash, which can be cleared up in one day with a scabies spray, can appear as pimples or be in the form of plaques that peel and become weepy.
Severe itching leads to scratching of the skin, which often causes secondary infection and the appearance of festering areas.
Why does the skin start to itch?
In order to choose a medicine that would ideally help get rid of the problem in a short time, you should accurately diagnose the cause. Depending on the symptoms of scabies, you can choose a therapy that will allow the patient to forget about the disease for a long time. The remedy for itching after a mosquito will be completely different from that for allergies or diabetes.
- Allergic reactions are a common cause of the problem. Patients are accustomed to thinking that the disease has symptoms of a runny nose, tearing, and skin rashes. Meanwhile, itching is one of the most striking manifestations of allergies.
- Diabetes mellitus, both type 2 and type 1, almost always provokes severe scabies. The patient is also concerned about persistent dermatitis, eczema, and scleropathy. These conditions force him to scratch his skin to the point of wounds. And with diabetes, they heal very slowly and often begin to fester. As a result, drug treatment is required.
- Insect bites are a common cause of itchy skin in children and adults. The problem is accompanied not only by scabies, but also by inflammation of the skin. Folk remedies for mosquito itching are just as effective as medications.
- Third-degree sun and household burns are characterized by redness of the epidermis, pain and a desire to scratch the damaged area. Medicinal ointments and suspensions should be used to get rid of burn symptoms as quickly as possible. Under no circumstances should you comb the damaged area.
- Fungal skin infections are called onychomycosis. Treatment requires a systematic approach, which involves the use of vitamin-mineral complexes and immunomodulatory drugs internally, and externally - ointments and compresses.
- Psychoemotional disorders often become causes of dermatological diseases. This is especially pronounced in children. For example, when moving to a new school or kindergarten, a child may develop atopic dermatitis. Despite the fact that he eats as usual, the child begins to suffer from itchy skin. There is only one remedy for it - to improve the psycho-emotional background, get more rest and eliminate excessive physical and mental stress.
- Pregnancy is an exceptional time in the life of every woman. Unfortunately, it comes with a lot of stress on the body. The liver and gall bladder often malfunction. As a result, a pregnant woman often suffers from itching. Remedies for pregnant women are ointments with components that accelerate the regeneration of the epidermis.
- Chronic diseases of the internal organs (kidneys, liver, pancreas and gall bladder) also often lead to severe itching. To get rid of it, you need to eliminate the cause, that is, the specific disease that provoked the problem.
- Scabies of the scalp (accompanied by dandruff and hair loss) most often lies in such causes as seborrhea, onychomycosis, alopecia areata. To treat the scalp, special preparations are required, since the usual ointments and creams for the skin of the body can only provoke even greater hair loss.
Diagnosis of the disease
When the first signs and symptoms of scabies appear, it is important to immediately consult a dermatologist, who, by collecting anamnesis, examining the skin, and identifying scabies, can make an accurate diagnosis. In some cases, when the symptoms are mild, a microscopic analysis (scraping) is required to identify the main causative agent of the skin disease.
Scabies requires mandatory treatment using highly effective scabies sprays. There are many names of drugs, your attending physician will help you decide and choose the most optimal option. First of all, this is due to the fact that the pathology is considered very contagious. Therefore, in addition to specially prescribed drug treatment, including anti-scabies, it is imperative to thoroughly treat not only the clothes, bath accessories and personal hygiene products of the sick person, but also disinfect the patient’s place of residence using special means.
Drug therapy
If you cannot do without medications, antihistamines become the basis of treatment, as the main means of regulating the irritability of nerve endings by reducing the amount of free histamine. Antihistamines are considered type 1 histamine receptor blockers and are divided into several classes.
Everyone knows the first one very well. This class includes drugs such as Tavegil, Diazolin, Suprastin, Diphenhydramine. Their effect in modern conditions is considered harsh, and the drugs themselves are considered outdated, since they have side effects: sedation, drowsiness. But, oddly enough, these side effects for those suffering from chronic skin itching can even be useful, since the drugs affect muscarinic cholinergic receptors.
For patients with pronounced neuroses, insomnia and severe irritability, who are exhausted from itching, such side effects can be a salvation, as they will bring relief by helping to calm down and making it easier to fall asleep.
We would like to remind you that each drug first receives an international nonproprietary name or INN. The following are the most popular commercial names, the first of which is the name of the original drug under which it was launched on the market.
Features of the treatment of scabies in adults and children
If several people with scabies are identified in one family, treatment with a scabies spray is carried out on all family members at the same time to avoid infecting other people.
Anti-scabies in the form of ointments, sprays and solutions for children are rubbed into the entire skin, including the scalp. Adults are allowed to rub only on open areas of the body.
Application of drugs should be done only by hand, without the use of cotton pads, tampons or gauze applications. Thanks to intensive manual application, it is possible to achieve the best possible penetration of the drug into the deep layers of the skin, including subsequent blockage of the scabies ducts.
All treatment with anti-scabies sprays is carried out before bedtime, in the evening, since the activation of the life activity of the scabies mite is typical at sunset.
The areas most affected by scabies are the areas with the thinnest skin. In children under 5 years of age, the localization of the rash is slightly different: the feet and palms, the inside of the buttocks, the scalp and the face area are most often affected.
The specific itching characteristic of scabies is caused by an allergic response of the body to the waste products of the scabies mite.
Non-hormonal antihistamines
This class of medications acts on receptors to block discomfort. Below is a list of the most effective and inexpensive drugs in this class.
- "Fenistil" is produced in the form of a gel. The local cooling effect instantly blocks discomfort. Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected area of the skin. Traditional methods of therapy

But often even this is enough for the patient: to alleviate the discomfort at least for a while in order to go to the pharmacy and purchase a more effective medication for itching.
- For insect bites, you can lubricate the itchy area with the juice of any citrus fruit - lemon, orange, grapefruit. The acid it contains is effective for pain, swelling, and scabies. Relief will not come for long - twenty to thirty minutes. If you can get fresh celandine juice, you can squeeze a little juice onto the bite site. Most often, a fairly strong short-term burning sensation occurs, but after a minute or two it goes away, and with it the itching and the desire to scratch the bite site.
- Oils that have nourishing and soothing properties are effective against itching of the scalp. Burdock, castor, flax, olive are the most popular. They prevent dry skin due to fungus and seborrhea, relieve itching, and promote health in the presence of both oily and dry dandruff.
- A bath with salt and soda helps relieve body itching caused by diseases of internal organs and diabetes. You should fill the bath with lukewarm water - it should not be too hot or too cold. Dissolve a package (1 kg) of soda and salt, lie down with your whole body and enjoy a ten-minute bath. If the itching is clearly expressed on the feet, you can make such a therapeutic bath just for them. If the skin area is located, for example, on the back or neck, it is better to carry out the procedure with a regular bath.
- Iodine mesh helps to accelerate blood circulation, and, as a result, reduce itching. You should moisten a cotton swab with iodine and draw a fine grid on the area of the skin that provokes discomfort. This simple procedure can reduce the severity of discomfort in just five minutes. If the cause of itching is a mosquito bite, iodine should be applied liberally to the spot on the tubercle.
