- Ointment – subacute and chronic processes for dermatitis developing against the background of allergies.
- Cream - acute and subacute stages of allergic dermatoses, in order to localize the process on the face/neck/in the folds of the skin, when it becomes wet on the scalp (the composition softens the skin, helps normalize the water balance).
- Anhydrous ointment - ideal for very dry skin types in the presence of chronic processes of formation and accumulation of foreign substances in the tissues. Treatments of cracks and lichenification with fatty ointment are also acceptable.
- Emulsion – this form is suitable for cases where there is exudate from the focal area. This can be either a smooth area of skin or folds, as well as hairy areas. The suspension exhibits a high therapeutic effect on burns resulting from prolonged exposure to the sun.
Composition of the original drug
Advantan is a remedy popular among dermatologists, which has a wide spectrum of action. The medicine is used for:
- Atopic dermatitis.
- Neurodermatitis.
- True eczema.
- Contact and allergic dermatitis.
- Hives.
- Itchy dermatoses of the scalp.
- Seborrhea.
The main component of Advantan is methylprednisolone aceponate, a corticosteroid hormone that has an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect. Wax, paraffin, petroleum jelly, degimulse E and water are used as excipients in the ointment.
The cream contains glycerin, decyl letate, cetostearyl alcohol, solid fat, sovtizan, sodium edetate, benzyl alcohol and water.
Based on this, we can conclude that analogues of Advantan ointment can be bought cheaper, but they must contain a locally acting corticosteroid hormone. Only hormonal agents can effectively eliminate itching and burning, reduce the activity of the inflammatory process and lead to a speedy recovery of the skin.
Cheaper analogues of Advantan cream are available in the pharmacy chain, which have a similar composition to it: Akriderm, Hydrocortisone ointment, Mazipredon, Metizolone, Medrol, Mycozolon, Comfoderm, Sterocort and Elokom.
Let's look at the most commonly used medications.
Contraindications
- dermatitis on the face, including perioral dermatitis;
- acne;
- venereal diseases, tuberculosis;
- fungal and bacterial diseases of the skin;
- scabies;
- viral skin diseases, including herpes;
- allergic reaction after vaccination;
- helminths;
- dermatitis in infants (diaper dermatitis);
- chicken pox;
- intolerance to the components of the ointment (before use, you should do a skin test by applying the ointment to the back of the wrist - if after 15 minutes the skin does not turn red, then the ointment can be used).
These ointments are prescribed when the body cannot cope with the production of sufficient amounts of hormones (mainly cortisone) and cannot suppress inflammation in the body.
Hormonal medications (creams, ointments, lotions, sprays) are used for the following skin diseases:
- atopic dermatitis (diathesis)
- contact and seborrheic dermatitis
- psoriasis
- lichen planus
- scleroderma
- dermatomyositis
- varicose eczema
- neurodermatitis
These drugs are also prescribed when other drugs are powerless. Their advantage is that they quickly bring relief, neutralize the inflamed area, and remove the source of inflammation.
"Sinaflan ointment" is used for the treatment of skin diseases sensitive to glucocorticosteroids. These include:
- scaly lichen (psoriasis);
- lichen planus;
- oily and dry seborrhea;
- discoid lupus erythematosus;
- eczema;
- atopic dermatitis;
- allergies;
- swelling;
Sometimes the medicine is used for burns, including sunburn, and also to avoid inflammation of bite sites.
With prolonged and uncontrolled use of the ointment, skin death or atrophy may occur. If the medicine is applied incorrectly, there is a systemic negative effect on the hormonal functions of the body.
The main contraindication to the use of this drug is individual intolerance to its components. It should not be used for infectious skin lesions, on open wounds, or for skin tuberculosis.
During pregnancy, ointment is not recommended! The main active ingredient included in the composition has a harmful effect on the developing fetus. Therapy for pregnant women is indicated only when absolutely necessary, when the benefits of Sinaflan are more obvious than the possible damage to the fetus.
No cases of overdose were identified.
Advantan ointment gives a positive effect in the treatment of skin rashes of various types and gets rid of swelling caused by an allergic reaction. This medication is also used in the treatment of the following diseases:
- psoriasis;
- atopic, contact and allergic dermatitis;
- eczema (children's, seborrheic, microbial, true);
- pityriasis rosea;
- sunburn;
- neurodermatitis.
Contraindications for Advantan include individual intolerance to the main component of the drug or other substances in the composition, viral skin diseases (such as chickenpox, shingles), acne on the face, rashes around the mouth and chin, cutaneous syphilis and tuberculosis. Advantan is not recommended for use in infants.
Failure to follow the doctor's recommendations may lead to consequences in the form of various allergic reactions on the skin. Redness, burning or itching may occur. There is a high probability that an overdose of the drug will cause:
- the appearance of stretch marks;
- anetoderma;
- acneiform dermatoses;
- inflammation of the hair follicles;
- skin pigmentation disorders.
Despite this, these side effects were not found in any case of use of the drug. Only a small proportion of patients (up to 1%) noted the appearance of a skin rash, inflammation of the hair follicles, pigmentation disorders and allergic reactions to the components of the medication.
Based on the instructions. The number of contraindications for Flucinar is quite similar to Advantan and is small. This is a list of symptoms with syndromes, diseases, various external and internal conditions under which the use of Flucinar and Advantan may be undesirable or unacceptable.
Characteristics of Hydrocortisone
The drug includes a glucocorticosteroid produced by the adrenal cortex. External use of the drug makes it possible to obtain numerous therapeutic effects:
- anti-inflammatory;
- antitoxic;
- anti-shock;
- antiallergic;
- decongestant;
- immunomodulatory.
Hydrocortisone ointment helps to quickly eliminate pain and restore damaged tissue.
The drug is widely used in the treatment of a number of pathologies of non-infectious origin:
- conjunctivitis;
- eczema;
- seborrhea;
- psoriasis;
- dermatitis;
- neurodermatitis.
It is recommended to apply a thin layer of ointment to the damaged area 3 times a day. The duration of the course of therapy is 1-2 weeks.
Children are treated twice a day. The drug is used for 5-7 days.
Among the restrictions on the use of the drug:
- individual intolerance to the constituent components;
- infectious lesions of the skin (tuberculosis, mycosis, ulcers).
Glucocorticosteroids have the ability to penetrate the placenta, so they are prohibited from being used during pregnancy so as not to harm the fetus.
During lactation, when treating with ointment, you must stop breastfeeding.

On the domestic market, this product is most easily found under the name “Sinaflan-phytopharm”. The medicine is dispensed without a doctor's prescription, and due to its popularity and prevalence it is found in every pharmacy. This popularity is due not only to its medicinal properties, but also to its relatively inexpensive cost. The average price for "Sinaflan" is from 12 to 15 UAH. or rub.
There are several common analogues on the domestic market:
- "Advantan". It is an absolute analogue and is prescribed for the same symptoms.
- "Beloderm". It is also a hormonal drug for external use. Available in cream form (15g) and spray form. The cream is most often prescribed for inflammation and eczema, and the spray is used to eliminate allergic reactions to insect bites. The use of the spray is indicated for hairy areas of the skin.
- "Betamethasone." A drug based on betamethasone valerate is indicated for dermatitis, lupus and senile itching.
- "Betliben." Decongestant and anti-inflammatory agent based on betamethasone.
- "Kutivate." Steroid drug for the treatment of plaque psoriasis, eczema, lichen planus, lupus erythematosus and the consequences of insect bites.
- "Mesoderm-hormonal." Vasoconstrictor drug. Used to get rid of dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.
When using analogues to treat any of the diseases, be sure to consult with your doctor; if this is not possible, do a home test for an allergic reaction before using the medicine.
You can buy Advantan in almost any pharmacy or online store without presenting a prescription.
There is no significant difference in the cost of the medicine in different forms of release.
The average price for the drug is in the range of 530-650 rubles.
Non-hormonal ointments
Comparative characteristics of hormonal and non-hormonal drugs indicate that with the help of non-hormonal drugs, the positive effect is achieved over a longer period of time. Moreover, they practically do not cause side effects, with the exception of the individual sensitivity of a person to the components of the ointment.
The list of the most common non-hormonal drugs includes:
EPLAN (cream). This medicine is used to treat various forms of eczematous dermatitis, insect bites, psoriasis, herpes, burns and microbial eczema. It actively relieves swelling, relieves itching and is able to have a preventive effect on chemical irritation. The cost of Eplan is 180 rubles.
Reviews: the ointment is safe and is often used to treat skin lesions in children (abrasions, cuts, etc.). Eplan is equally good both for infected wounds and for getting rid of dermatitis.
BEPANTEN (cream, lotions, ointment). Bepanten is prescribed for dermatitis of various types to neutralize dry skin, itching, and get rid of erythema. Quite often, the drug is used as a prophylactic for diaper rash in babies, as it creates a protective film on the skin and quickly regenerates skin tissue. The cost of the medicine is 570 rubles.
Reviews: user opinions about the ointment are mostly positive. Many confirm complete relief from negative external symptoms within 1 week of using Bepanten. Particularly good reviews come from young mothers, for whom Bepanten allows them to get rid of cracked nipples. They appear quite often when a baby is breastfeeding.
SKIN-CAP (cream, gel, shampoo, aerosol)
Skin-Cap forms a whole series of antimicrobial, antivoproliferative and anti-inflammatory agents. This drug has been experimentally found to be the most effective and safe for patients.
Skin cap is prescribed to get rid of atopic, seborrheic and diaper dermatitis. In addition, ointment and cream are used for eczema, seborrhea, psoriasis and excessive dry skin. The average cost of an external product is 800 -1450 rubles.
Reviews: Numerous reviews indicate positive dynamics when using a series of these drugs. In addition, patients indicate the effectiveness of Skin-Cap antiseborrheic shampoo and aerosol. Negative reviews are caused by the price category of the drug.
EXODERIL (ointment, cream). This drug is an effective antifungal agent and is most often prescribed for an unclear cause of the inflammatory process on the skin. This drug is used for cutaneous candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor and the development of inflammatory dermatomycosis. The average price is 380 rubles.
Reviews: patients claim that this drug has the best effect when combined with complex treatment. No allergic reactions were identified.
RADEVIT (ointment, cream). Radevit is prescribed for the treatment of contact, atopic and allergic dermatitis to relieve negative symptoms on the surface of the skin. It eliminates itching, inflammation and has a softening effect on the skin of the face and hands, especially in children. Cream and ointment have a good regenerating and reparative effect. Price – 370 rub.
Reviews: Numerous patient opinions confirm that the ointment is well tolerated. Women claim that, in addition to the medicinal effects for skin diseases, long-term use of Radevit helps get rid of wrinkles and acne on the face.
GISTAN-N (ointment, cream). This drug is intended for external use and belongs to dietary supplements that are prescribed for atopic and allergic dermatitis. In addition, Gistan-N perfectly relieves itching, including after insect bites. However, in no case should this non-hormonal drug be confused with a similar one (Gistan-N with the addition of hormones), so you should carefully study the composition of the drug before use. The average price is 150 -190 rubles.
Reviews: positive effects are observed when treating children. Patients report that therapy with Gistan-N is highly effective, but for this it must be used correctly and regularly. There were no negative reviews when using the ointment and cream.
Hormonal ointments used for the face
Hormonal ointments are often used to treat inflammatory processes in the neck and face. Despite the rapid elimination of inflammatory processes, these ointments negatively affect the general condition of the skin:
- hormones reduce collagen production, so the skin becomes too thin and sensitive
- acne may appear
- skin pigmentation may be disrupted
- possible skin discoloration
- the appearance of stretch marks and atrophy
If use is necessary, you should try to use a cream or lotion, since the ointment has the most powerful effect and has more side symptoms. For the skin of the face and the skin around the eyes, Elokom, Advantan, Afloderm are better suited.
What does Advantan help with?
Before starting therapy, you should carefully study the leaflet attached to the medicine, especially with regard to the indications for use and treatment regimen.
The pharmacological product is prescribed for dermatitis of various origins:
- allergic;
- atopic;
- contact;
- neurodermatitis.
In addition to the listed indications, the emulsion is included in therapy for dermatitis resulting from exposure to sunlight (sunburn), as well as for various types of eczema (including microbial, seborrheic, acute childhood, true).
It is also appropriate to use the medicine to eliminate manifestations of dyshidrotic or degenerative eczema and skin problems in children.
Metizolone
This is the only “cheap” analogue with the same active substance as advantan. The cost ranges from 100 -300 rubles. Produced by a Ukrainian pharmaceutical company. It has less solubility and is absorbed by the body much more slowly. The therapeutic effect occurs within a few hours and manifests itself in 65% of cases only with subsequent applications.
Indications
Indications for use and method do not differ from Advantan.
Diseases for which this drug is prescribed:
- dermatitis: atopic, diaper, food, medicinal and other;
- various types of eczema in adults and children;
- sunburn;
- insect bites;
- bacterial and fungal infection;
- neurodermatitis;
- acne.
Methods of application
- Adult patients apply a thin layer to damaged areas 1 – 2 times a day. The course of therapy is up to 12 weeks according to indications.
- Parents apply the medicine to the child’s damaged areas, without rubbing, once a day. Therapy lasts up to 4 weeks.
- Pediatricians prescribe it for the treatment of children from 6 months. Experts prohibit it during the first trimester of pregnancy. During lactation, doctors advise not to apply cream to the mammary glands.
The pharmacy chain sells many medicines that have the same medicinal properties as Advantan. The difference lies in the current active substance. The dosage and duration of the course of use may vary. When using, you should consult your doctor.
Instructions for use
The dermatological agent is distributed over the focal area once a day.
A thin layer of healing substance is formed on the surface of the skin.
The attending physician may suggest a different treatment regimen, including one that includes additional oral medications.
The medicine, produced in the form of a cream, contains a large amount of water, which ensures the flow of exudate.
This provides a high therapeutic effect in the treatment of weeping eczema occurring in the acute phase or areas with maceration, regardless of whether the area is covered with hair or not.
To eliminate symptomatic manifestations, adult patients are prescribed a course of treatment lasting no more than 2.5 months. For children there is a limit of up to 1 month.
Given the lack of research data containing information on the effect of the drug on infants under 4 months, the drug is not prescribed to this category of patients.
The recommended dosage is identical to adults: only the affected area of the skin is covered without affecting the mucous membranes.
The formed layer of the drug substance must be very thin.
Important! For children, it is prohibited to use the cream under an occlusive dressing.
A similar effect can occur when treating the area covered by the diaper.
Therefore, after the procedure, you should avoid diapers for a couple of hours or use an alternative method of treating dermatitis.
Depending on the degree of damage, the medicine is used from 1 to 3 times a day, applied in a non-greasy layer, lightly massaging. Sinaflan is prescribed, as a rule, for a period of 5 to 10 days, the maximum period of use in especially severe cases is 25 days. It is not advisable to apply it to delicate and sensitive areas, folds in which the drug can accumulate, on the face and around the mucous membranes.

Why are hormonal ointments dangerous for children?
For children, hormonal ointments are most often prescribed for the treatment of allergies and prolonged atopic dermatitis (diathesis).
- already after one or two uses of the ointment a clear improvement is noticeable
- itching, redness disappears
- Hormones contained in the ointment penetrate the bloodstream and cause side effects, including growth retardation
- hormones affect the functioning of the adrenal glands
- hormones can cause hypertension
When using hormonal ointments for children, you should be extremely careful with the dosage and try to use hormonal preparations of weak or moderate action (Lokoid, Afloderm, Cinacort, Ftoderm) in the form of a lotion or spray (since they penetrate the skin least deeply, which means they cause fewer side effects actions).
To get rid of skin diseases in children, the use of Advantan ointment is allowed from 4 months. The ointment is applied with a bandage or applied directly to the affected area. In this case, you should carefully follow the dosage and recommendations of your doctor.
Comfoderm
Those who need a cheaper analogue of Advantan ointment should turn their attention to this product. Unlike a branded drug, the average price of which is 600 rubles, you can buy the Russian-made Comfoderm drug for 300 rubles, that is, half the price.
The list of indications for the use of domestic medications is similar to Advantan; many doctors consider it the most effective budget substitute for an expensive drug.
Comfoderm should not be used if:
- Chicken pox.
- Shingles.
- Skin tuberculosis.
- Post-vaccination reactions.
The drug is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.
The instructions for use of the product contain information that it can be used during pregnancy only for a short time and in exceptional cases when the benefit of the drug outweighs the possible harm. During lactation, you can be treated with the drug, but you should not apply it to the skin of the mammary glands.
special instructions
Advantan can be part of complex therapy in the treatment of fungal and bacterial infections.
Exceeding the prescribed dose and course of treatment may lead to glaucoma.
Advantan should be applied topically, without covering large areas of the skin. Otherwise, disruption of the adrenal glands may occur.
Shelf life: up to 5 years
Storage conditions: temperature should not be higher than 25ºС.
Introduced over 50 years ago, topical glucocorticoids are still the first line of treatment for inflammatory skin diseases: atopic eczema, contact dermatitis and many others. The main advantage of such hormonal ointments and creams is that they have virtually no systemic effect at adequate doses and course duration.
Advantan and pregnancy
During pregnancy, treatment with Advantan is allowed, but it is necessary to strictly monitor the dosage and not exceed the course of treatment. In many cases, the duration of use is, on the contrary, reduced. Therefore, the dosage and duration of the course are determined by the doctor.
Testing of the pharmacological agent was not carried out on pregnant and breastfeeding patients, therefore these cases are not described in these studies.
Due to the existing alleged risks for fetal development, the product is not prescribed for this category of patients.
If there is an urgent need to use the medicine, you should limit yourself to treating small areas of the skin.
Breastfeeding women should interrupt lactation during treatment.
Advantan analogue
If Advantan does not provide positive dynamics in eliminating dermatological problems over the course of 4-5 days, the attending physician selects a substitute.
Among the effective means:
- Medrol (RUB 316);
- Hydrocortisone(RUB 446);
- Metipred(RUB 268);
- Metizolone (RUB 201);
- Depot Medrol (RUB 206);
- Flucinar (286 rub.).
Cheap analogues of Advantan:
- Comfoderm (RUB 198);
- Lokoid(RUB 147);
- Sinaflan (64 rub.);
- Akriderm (92 RUR).
Cream or ointment for external use should be used strictly as directed in accordance with the recommendations of the attending physician or instructions in the annotation.
Self-medication is fraught with various complications and the disease becoming chronic.
There are two types of drug analogues:
- with the same active ingredient. The composition (additional substances - preservatives, fragrances, coating components and others) of drugs is different. Producing countries differ.
- with different active ingredients, but having the same properties.
In the modern world, any original drug has 2–5 analogues. The main analogues of Advantan:

- methizolone,

- celestoderm-B, betliben.

Reviews
My son was prescribed Advantan ointment at the initial stage of atopic dermatitis.
The red itchy spots were applied for three days, after which the acute stage of the disease subsided.
I have no doubt about the effectiveness of the product, the only thing that confuses me is the fact that it is hormonal. The doctor dispelled fears and said that the composition is absolutely safe for children if used according to the regimen described in the instructions.
In recent years, every spring, strange spots appear on the elbows, which either grow, then peel, or disappear spontaneously.
At first I thought that the problem was a lack of vitamins, but a neighbor said that the lesions looked more like dermatitis. On her advice, I used Advantan ointment.
After 4 days, not a trace remained of the coarsened formation.
The recent reaction to eating an exotic product for the first time exceeded all fears - my face and neck were completely covered with small itchy pimples.
The doctor advised me to take Telfast tablets and Advantan emulsion for external treatment of the focal area.
It took 6 days to eliminate the allergic manifestation, but the alarming signs of dermatitis disappeared after three days of treatment. The drug really works, I recommend it!
Precautionary measures
Therapy in which a dermatological product is used requires the implementation of certain precautions, regardless of the choice of dosage form:
- The medicine should be used in the minimum dosage and strictly for the period recommended by the attending physician.
- Exposed areas of mucous membranes cannot be treated with the product.
- If the medicine is applied to a large area of skin or fixed for a long time with a thick dressing, side effects may occur.
- If the skin dries out as a result of long-term treatment with Advantan, the product is replaced with an analogue.
- A long course of therapy may cause increased sensitivity to the active components of the drug. At the first alarming symptoms, it is recommended to consult your doctor to adjust your treatment.
Hydrocortisone ointment
It is an analogue of Advantan ointment. Contains the synthetic steroid hormone hydrocortisone, which has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and decongestant effects.
- Eczema.
- Allergic dermatitis.
- Skin pathologies of non-microbial etiology, accompanied by itching.
Hydrocortisone ointment can also be used for insect bites.
When applied topically, it is metabolized in the epidermis, and then in the liver, and is excreted through the kidneys and intestines.
Hormonal ointment has virtually no side effects. Adverse effects occur only with prolonged, irrational use of the product. In this case, infectious skin lesions, atrophy, and dryness may occur.
There have been cases of hypercortisolism with prolonged use of excessive amounts of ointment on large areas of the skin.
Children's bodies are more sensitive to the systemic effects of hormonal agents than adults. Children more often develop Itsenko-Cushing syndrome, delayed growth and development. In this regard, only a hydrocortisone-based product is suitable for children under one year of age.
