Which is better: Neosmectin or Smecta? For a child? What is the difference? Comparison of drugs

Almost everyone is familiar with the situation when diarrhea develops after eating food of questionable quality or for no apparent reason. In such cases, it is important to choose a drug that will not only eliminate frequent bowel movements, but also bind toxins in the intestines. Smecta and Neosmectin are such drugs and should be compared.

Characteristics of the drug Neosmectin

It is an adsorbent drug, the main purpose of which is to get rid of diarrhea of various origins . It is produced in powder form, with different flavors, for the preparation of a suspension.

It increases the amount of mucus and normalizes the mucous barrier of the gastrointestinal tract. Thanks to the active substance, diarrhea quickly ceases. The medication does not affect the functionality of the intestines.

The following indications for use are distinguished:

  • Diarrhea caused by an infection of the intestines and the accumulation of toxins in it.
  • Diarrhea caused by allergic reactions.
  • Food poisoning, accompanied by diarrhea and gas accumulation.

It can be used in the complex treatment of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the large and small intestine, peptic ulcers, as well as other pathologies accompanied by diarrhea, heartburn, belching, pain and bloating.

Contraindications:

  1. Constipation, impaired movement of contents through the intestines.
  2. Diabetes.
  3. Individual intolerance to the substances included in the composition.

Since it does not have the ability to be absorbed into the blood, it is allowed for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. If constipation occurs during administration, then the dose used is necessary, and if allergic reactions occur, cancel it.

special instructions

Diarrhea (especially in children) increases the risk of electrolyte imbalance

and
dehydration
.
To avoid this, the child is usually prescribed Smecta together. Instead of Regidron,
you can use the drugs
Citraglucosolan
,
Reosolan
, etc.

Oral rehydration salt solution helps replenish electrolytes lost during vomiting and diarrhea, the glucose it contains improves salt absorption, and citrates help correct the balance in metabolic acidosis

.

Rehydration products for adults

prescribed if necessary. The amount of rehydration depends on the course of the disease, the age of the patient and the intensity of diarrhea.

Characteristics of the drug Smecta

It has an adsorbent and antidiarrheal effect. Available in powder form with a faint vanilla aroma, from which a suspension is prepared. Packaged in laminated bags.

Once in the intestines, microbes, viruses, pathogenic microorganisms, and toxins bind, which are removed from the body with feces. Thanks to this property, it is prescribed for various types of poisoning, diarrhea caused by intestinal infections or other causes. For diseases of internal organs, it reduces the symptoms of intoxication .

This medicine helps to remove only harmful and toxic substances, without affecting vitamins, minerals, and trace elements.

In addition to the characteristics described above, Smecta has gastroprotective and enveloping properties. It covers the upper part of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract with a thin layer, which helps protect the organs from injury. The adverse effects of bile and hydrochloric acids, microbes and toxins are also neutralized. The product does not have a negative effect on the normal functionality of the intestines, and therefore does not lead to stool disturbances.

Prescribed for the following diseases:

  • Intestinal colic.
  • Diarrhea caused by allergies, side effects of medications taken, infectious lesions, poor quality food.
  • Food intoxication.
  • Stomach pain, flatulence, gas, heartburn.

Dissolves in liquid before use. Allowed for adults and children according to the dosage regimen.

Not allowed when:

  1. Insufficient absorption of nutrients in the small intestine.
  2. Fructosemia.
  3. Intestinal obstruction.
  4. Hypersensitivity to the constituent substances.

If side effects occur, the drug should be discontinued. Approved for use during lactation and pregnancy.

Use with alcohol

Diosmectite reduces the rate of absorption of alcohol.

To reduce the effect of intoxication, immediately before the feast you should take 2-3 sachets of the drug.

To prevent the development of hangover syndrome

, Smecta is taken after drinking alcohol.

If there is vomiting within 30 minutes after taking the suspension, the drug is repeated in a double dose. In case of poisoning with alcohol surrogates, it is necessary to induce vomiting, then take three sachets of Smecta and call an ambulance.

How are the products similar?

Both medications belong to the same pharmacological group, have an adsorbent, antidiarrheal effect and have the same active ingredient - diosmectite . This substance is inorganic and is extracted from smectite clays.

Their composition contains the same additives to enhance taste - vanillin, glucose, synthetic sweetener, flavorings.

They have the same side effects, indications and contraindications for use, powder form of release, as well as the same course of treatment from three to seven days. Allowed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Based on this, we can conclude that these medications are analogues.

Additional Information

Like Neosmectin, Smecta contains sugar, so diabetics should use these enterosorbents after consultation with a specialist.

Treatment of diarrhea does not exclude rehydration. Also, when taking the suspension, the patient should remember that:

  • The daily fluid requirement for an adult is 2 liters.
  • While diarrhea continues, you should adhere to a gentle diet.
  • Greens, fresh vegetables/fruits, spices, semi-finished products, and frozen foods are excluded from the menu.

Rare adverse reactions while taking diosmectite may include urticaria, itching, and Quincke's edema.

The effect on the ability to drive a car and other mechanical means has not been studied, but it is assumed that there is no or little effect.

Comparison, differences, what and for whom is better to choose

It is impossible to say which of the drugs is better, since they do not have any fundamental difference, both cope with the assigned tasks perfectly. In addition to getting rid of diarrhea, they successfully fight against chronic, acute pathologies of the stomach, as well as unpleasant consequences after long-term use of medications. There are only minor differences between them, presented below.

The products in question are produced in different countries and differ in cost and flavor. The price of Neosmectin is about 130 rubles , it is available in raspberry, orange, and vanilla flavors. It is a domestic drug, which is not so widespread and is in slightly less demand compared to the second one.

The cost of Smecta is slightly more expensive - about 180 rubles per package, and there are only two flavors - orange and vanilla. Country of origin: France. It is very popular and occupies a leading place in the choice of remedies for diseases of the digestive tract.

When using any sorbents, you need to remember that they can absorb not only harmful, but also useful substances. Therefore, in the case of taking other medications, in order to avoid a decrease in their effectiveness, it is necessary to maintain an interval between doses of one and a half hours.

Review: Powder

Attention!
Before using medications, consult a specialist! Effect. Affordable price. Pleasant taste. Suitable for pregnant women and children under one year old.

I learned about the existence of Neosmectin relatively recently, quite by accident, when I went to the pharmacy to buy Smecta. I didn’t have enough for it by a few rubles, so they offered me a cheaper domestically produced equivalent. Although Neosmectin is cheaper, I won’t buy it again, in some ways it is still inferior to Smecta, more details in my review a little later.

Moreover, the difference in price is not too significant. A package of Neosmectin costs 110 rubles, while the cost of Smecta is 137 rubles, the number of sachets in the packages is the same - 10 pieces. Neosmectin is domestically produced.

You might be interested in my review of Smecta, which is always in our medicine cabinet; I still like this French-made product better.

Neosmectin is available in various flavors. I purchased vanilla, in my opinion this is the most neutral option. There are also orange, lemon and raspberry.

Can be stored at room temperature. Produced in Russia. The composition is indicated on the packaging. The main active ingredient of Neosmectin is dioctahedral smectite, as in Smectite, and the dosage in both drugs is the same - 3 g. As you can see, both drugs are analogues.

The differences are insignificant; Neosmectin contains a slightly higher content of glucose monohydrate, which is an excipient. The method of application and dosage are also indicated on the packaging. By the way, in pharmacies it is also sold individually, the cost of one sachet is about 10 rubles.

Each bag contains all the necessary information - composition, method of use and dosage, storage conditions and expiration dates. The shelf life is long - 3 years. In general, Neosmectin is an antidiarrheal drug, although the drug has a very wide spectrum of action, it is also used for heartburn, bloating, as an adsorbent for intoxication.

Read more in the instructions for use. The big plus is that it can be used even by very young children under one year old and pregnant women. There are very few contraindications (intestinal obstruction). But I do not use Neosmectin (and Smecta) as an antidiarrheal agent, because

They do not eliminate the causes of diarrhea; moreover, they often cause constipation in a small child if taken for more than a few days.

For diarrhea (in case of intestinal infection and poisoning), I have recently preferred to use Ecofuril (a cheap analogue of Enterofuril) or Burnet, a decoction of this herb will not only quickly stop diarrhea, but will also eliminate the cause due to its antimicrobial properties.

Neosmectin does not have antimicrobial properties, therefore, for diarrhea and intestinal infections, it is used more often in complex treatment.

I also don’t use it as an adsorbent because the drug causes constipation after just a couple of days, especially since I much prefer using Polysorb as an adsorbent. But during complex treatment, do not forget about the INTERVAL when taking medications and Neosmectin simultaneously (as well as any other adsorbent). The interval should be several hours, because adsorbents reduce the effect of drugs.

I use neosmectin and its more expensive analogue as an ambulance for increased gas formation and severe bloating. With occasional use, the side effect in the form of constipation does not appear. Most often, increased gas formation occurs in a child, from kefir, cabbage or apples, etc.

Now my son is three years old, but he has suffered from bloating periodically since infancy. This happens very rarely in our country. For a child, everything happens quickly. It seems that the baby was just smiling and playing, but suddenly he suddenly starts screaming loudly, and his tummy quickly swells like a drum. And it continues to swell further, it seems that it will burst.

Here you need to act very quickly, so I always make sure that I always have these sachets in my home medicine cabinet. In terms of effectiveness, domestic Neosmectin is not inferior to the French Smecta, it acts in just a few minutes. The air bubbles inside begin to “collapse” and the volume of the abdomen quickly decreases. But when it runs out, I won’t buy it again, and here’s why.

Compared to Smecta, Neosmectin is much more difficult to dissolve in water; dissolution takes a lot of time. The child is in pain, and the mother, instead of quickly helping, must stand and stupidly stir Neosmectin, whose consistency is very similar to window putty. The ambulance turns out to be not so ambulance.

And even after 5-7 minutes of intensive stirring, we see the following picture... I recommend using very warm water for dilution in order to at least slightly reduce the dilution time. The taste is pleasant, neutral, slightly sweet, but not cloying. The finished solution smells a little like vanilla.

Although the child has a bloated stomach and acute pain, he doesn’t want to drink anything, I pour in little by little with a spoon. Neosmectin has proven to be effective, but due to the fact that it takes a very long time and does not dissolve well, I will no longer buy it for a home first aid kit. After all, we mainly use it for a child who needs help as quickly as possible.

For adults who can endure a little, it is quite possible to buy for a home first aid kit, but for a child, in my opinion, it is better to buy a French analogue. In addition, the difference in price is not too significant - only 27 rubles. The drug is very effective against bloating; I wouldn’t dare call it an “ambulance”, given its poor solubility.

For heartburn and diarrhea, I prefer to use other medications. I recommend Neosmectin for occasional one-time use, since use for several days can cause severe constipation.

I'll end here. I hope my review was helpful. Health to you and your children!
